'tis definitely a work in progress... betcha if you go there every few days its gonna look pretty different on each visit... i'm only just learning how to tweak stuff and make changes to the site so bear with me... and post comments if ya like to let me know what's good and bad...

after a weekend of work the monster is done... kenzie digs it big time which gives me joy... and its built like a tank so i reckon both she and tugboat will have years o' fun exploring every square inch...

as an added bonus its conveniently located in close proximity to the deck... whereupon are located some comfy patio chairs in which frosty adult beverages may and will be consumed whilst keeping a close and protective eye on the playset's users...

can't believe its been three whole days without a blog entry... getting kinda addicted to this whole blogging thing... i'm glad i started...

lessee... what's new... i'm a tad sick-ish... been fighting a cold with the assistance of zicam and airborne, a couple of the finest remedies/preventatives i've found... today however we shall bring out the big guns and take massive doses of dayquil methinks because i'm on a mission to finish the king-hell playset that we have acquired for les enfants...

worked on it a bit on thursday and most of yesterday... the end is in sight... really small and way in the distance... but in sight... and today i think amigos steve and dw are going to come over with their respective family units and out of town guests as appropos and help finish 'er off... and drink beer... and barbecue... sounds lovely dunnit?...

sakes alive... its true... we're the proud owners of actual cds... the fruits of our labo(u)rs so to speak... well i for one think they look and sound great... spank plan for world domination is in effect...

and our practice last night turned out to be a pretty good one i reckon... started out a bit sluggish but by the end we were having our own lil' festival of joy... i was anyway... and steve's sister sue and her pal wendy stopped by to check out the festivities.. i thought that was quite cool...

as an aside i'll say congrats to steve fosset for his 'round the world flight... as a guitar playing sandpaper salesman who has a degree in aero/astro engineering the whole "flight" thing holds a very dear place in my heart... and i suppose i just generally like to see groovy stuff happen... so atta boy...

"sweet jesus take me now" as the montana crew would say... it appears that the friggin' cds were delivered to the casa de steve last night... thus bringing to an end our seven-to-ten-day-turn-around adventure... a mere two months and three days later...

so that's pretty cool!!!... can't wait to lay our hot lil' hands on them puppies tonight at practice...

and speaking of the practice... i sure am looking forward to it... we missed a week w/ tom out of town so it feels like its been ages since we played... and i reckon we can officially start looking towards a release party now that we have something to release so that'll be good for the focus... and to top it all off we may be graced with the presence o' some international-type visitors to watch our flailin' around in the form of steve's sister and some pals... that'd be spiffy...

well i'm now a month or so into my little blog experiment and i must say i've been enjoying it immensely... so much so that i've come to the conclusion that i'd like to step up and have my own website and domain name and all that stuff...

so i says to my afforementioned guitar slingin' podcastin' homey mr. lacey "i think it's time for me to register a domain name and get serious about this whole website thing"...

to which he says "i use register.com"...

so i log on... proceed through all the setting-up-an-account stuff online and zig when i shoulda zagged... i end up calling them and i must say that my experience was outstanding... talked to two different folks that a) knew what they were doing and b) were happy to talk to me and fix my issues...

and that is the way things should be in the wonderful world of business folks... i've registered the domain name i wanted and register.com has brand new customer that wants to tell others about their great service...

so the family is still out of town... and i'm still missing them big time... and i sure am looking forward to picking them up on saturday and getting back to the hectic, non-stop, sleepless routine that is my life... haha... sounds funny to say i'm looking forward to that i guess... on the positive side bachelor-wise i am quite enjoying lotsa sleep and guitar playing...

and in bachelor mode tonight i shall be joining my amigo steve to be part of his latest "a brit abroad" podcast... i shall work on my ed mcmahon sideman guffaw...

and in a fit of bachelor-related free time i've been listening to and watching the fairly recently released nirvana boxed set as loaned to me by drummer ebo... what an amazing bunch o' goodies... definitely for the more hardcore nirvana fan as opposed to the casual listener who kinda dug "smells like teen spirit"... but as i reckon i fall in that former category i've quite enjoyed it...

another stupefyingly fulfilling practice, for me at least, on wednesday... we worked primarily on the two newest songs we've got... including one that i finished writing that afternoon and brought in that very night... i'm so jazzed that we can take a song with some potential and often get it basically down in a couple of hours...

and i must say that the lovely and talented mr. lacey has once again come up with a stellar guitar part for the newest tune... i'm constantly pleased by the differences that end up between guitar parts in our songs... i think a big part of our "sound" is the melding of occaisionally disparate guitar sounds that work well together... that and rockin' bass and drums and hollerin'... hah...

and a cd update... supposedly they were in customs on wednesday and should have been clearing and on the way at any moment... looking forward to seeing those puppies...

and i'm looking forward to having a little cd release party... been too long since we've played in front of the peoples in my humble opinion...

of course the five or so hours prior to his actually falling asleep were nowhere near placid and peaceful.... but i'll accentuate the positive here... i think we'll accept sloggin' through a couple extra hours of fussiness if we knew it'd produce a full night's sleep...

it's 3:00 in the morning... here's what's in my head...

hockey...

just read that the nhl season is very likely going to be officially called off this weekend... (nhl???... are those guys still around???...)... well yes... although perhaps not for long... in, from what i can figure, a classic example of too much expansion too soon with no control on expenditures, the league finds itself in a bit of a financial jam... the owners and the players have been meeting, very sporadically, to try and come to some sort of agreement on how to move forward and keep both sides rich and happy ... from what i read now it looks like they've both told each other to pound sand... thus potentially calling off an entire season of a major professional sport for, i think, the first time ever in north america... i wouldn't be surprised if the whole league folds... and from what i've seen so far this year i wouldn't be surprised if no one notices... must say it bums me out a tad... although i don't pay as much attention as i have done in the past i still consider myself a fan...

my pal steve has turned me on to this whole new frontier of DIY production and on-demand info... power to the peoples says i... steve has started his own podcast, a brit abroad, which i quite enjoy and recommend highly... he does one every week or so - i think he's up to five or six of 'em now...

band night... what a good practice...

so after a rough first-night-back we've now had two pretty fine practices... as i opine anyway...

took some time tonight to go back and fine tune a couple of older songs as well as work on the newest one... and had a fine time doing it...

we're waiting to get our completed cds back from the folks doing them... been way to long and some less than ideal service as steve has pointed out on his website... but the goods are supposedly shipping in the next day or two... this is good... when we get them we're going to try to plan a cd release party at the central in kirkland... should be a hoot...

and ebo shared with me that he treated his girls, who are huge fans, to third row tickets to see... ashley simpson... kids these days... he blew them away and i think that's pretty awesome... made my night to think about them losing their minds with joy at the thought of getting to go to that concert...

so the place where spank practices, premier soundworks, is unfortunately going to be making a move from the eastside... uh... next door to my house... over to seattle...

this is a bummer of rather large magnitude... even apart from my 30-45 second commute to practice (depending on traffic) premier is a fantastically cool place and is relatively convenient for the rest of the band... and paul the owner is one of the coolest music-related folks i've met in the 10+ years i've been playing in bands... he shall be sorely missed...

this is also where we recorded our cd snapshot as well... good times...

should also mention that paul's in a band called slender means that are finishing up a new album and planning a west coast tour in march... they rock... go see them...

was a pretty good game and a fine lil' soiree... as much of a beatles fan as i am i thought the halftime show was a bit of a snoozer though... needed some oiled dwarves or something... the network certainly played that safe...no chance of any fcc fines this year... oh well...

beautiful daughter mackenzie slept, amid the 110 decibel broadcast and cheering outbursts, for most of the second quarter... on dad... whose left side almost immediately fell asleep... once she woke up and i had restored partial circulation we headed home to mum and tugboat to watch the end of the game...

speaking of sebastian... apparently i just thought "tugboat" would be a good nickname one day... guess when he's older he can either a) make up his own reason for it, or b) tell dad to stop calling him something silly...

ahhhh... superbowl sunday... the most ridiculously over-hyped day o' sport in america... let's just hope for a good game, shall we???... nothing like enduring the two weeks of over-the-top build-up its-gonna-be-crazy this-is-the-game-to-end-all-games in-your-face promotion to have a half time score of 27-3 and the second half be a formality...

wow... having come out of the gate sounding like a totally bitter anti-sport wanker... i must correct that impression... i'm a big football fan... and a big sports fan in general... and i'm quite looking forward to the game... still think its over-hyped tho'...

so we're packing up the clan and heading over to our friend tim's place for a superbowl party... he's from pennsylvania and a big ol' eagles fan... i shall root for the afforementioned eagles a) as the underdog, and b) in honor of our host... hopefully les enfants have a swell time and we won't need to be heading home during the second quarter...

had a birthday party today for mackenzie and her pals ethan, alex, and ben... they were all born around the same time and their mums got to be pals...

after a whirlwind two and a half hours o' fun and excitement k and i looked around and... were pleasantly surprised to see that the abode was still standing and not in the usual state of disrepair...

and tonight k and i get to have a lil' party of our own... its a date night... the first one in quite a while... we're going to meet guitar player steve and his lovely bride nabila for a drinkie or two... this is good...

so for some reason, the origins of which completely escape me, we've nicknamed sebastian "tugboat"... i find myself calling him that a lot... although it seems normal to me it just dawned on me it is a bit of an unusual nickname, especially for someone not involved in the harbo(u)r transportation arts... shall have to ask k if she remembers where that came from...

so tired... been saying that a lot lately... as has the love-of-my-life karen...

why all the sleepiness you may ask???... his name's sebastian... and he's now reached the ripe old age of seven-and-a-half weeks... looks like his sleep patterns might be settling down a bit... knock-on-wood sweet jesus i hope they are anyway because this time around the whole sleep deprivation thing is killing me... and i think i can go ahead and speak for karen on that point as well... i sure don't remember it being this draining with the arrival of the lovely and talented mackenzie a couple of years ago... 'course i was two years younger... there was no two-year-old in the mix... i guess it probably blew too... i think i'm repressing those memories...

so karen and i have been sharing sebastian duties... usually splitting the night in half and doing what needs to be done for a few hours while sleep is enjoyed by the significant other... and in the case where one of us is almost completely deranged and nearing a meltdown the other has stepped up to the plate to offer a night off of baby duty... i shall point out my eternal grattitude for the times when i was the deranged and melting down...

and although nowhere near that severe of a situation this eve i reckon i shall do my best to give k the rest of the night off... she was up with the lil' dude until 10:30 whilst i enjoyed a most lovely nap... and she had a day from hell today... capped off with a speeding ticket... what the hell kinda sadistic cop gives a lady driving a friggin' minivan with two kids in it a ticket at 10:00 on a thursday morning???... what a crock... go catch some criminals...

but i digress... the dude sleeps... mackenzie sleeps... karen sleeps... and now i think i'll do the same...

i mentioned steve the guitar player in my last post... we play together in a band called spank... kind of a somewhat alt-rock kind of thing... along with steve and i are ebo playing drums and tom playing bass and singing... i play guitar and sing...

just got home from a practice... we're a once-a-week practice kind of band... and we try to gig once a month or so... was a VERY good practice... we've just been on a bit of an extended hiatus as the newest addition to my family arrived 6 weeks ago forcing a longer than usual break... we played last week as well but had a bit of a rough time... a month plus is definitely too long to go without playing and expect to jump back in without some cobwebs...

but tonight was good... a slow start but by the end we were back in form and sounding pretty good i reckon...

i love the feeling after a great practice or a great gig... hard to describe but very fulfilling... i like the thought of creating something from nothing that we're proud of... and its even more interesting to me if its something that exists and then goes away never to be seen/heard again...

art is cool... haha...

time to try and get some sleep before the afforementioned new addition wants to get up and eat...

i'm cj

i've decided to start a blog... a daily diary of sorts... i've never kept a journal before, i suppose because i wanted to avoid a lot of mundane stuff... actually... i wanted to avoid coming back to look at things that were not worth writing down in the first place... "had soup for lunch"... that sort of crap... but i think i've made some sort of major paradigm shift on how i view this stuff because i'm kinda embracing the chance to look back and see what seemed important enough to commit to page on any given day... even if it is (was) silly and trivial...

so i think i'll try to write a little something every day or two and see what happens... about me or stuff that's going on in life or in my head... perhaps there will be some good things in with the chaff...
